Currency & Pricing Framework

The following guide explains the Latinum pricing scale used in our campaign, based on canonical references from the Star Trek universe. It includes a legend for the currency units, reference points from canon, and a proposed target scale for pricing items and services within the campaign.

Units

We use Latinum as the standard base currency for all our economic transactions, even though they might not be actually performed in Latinum. It mainly serves as a common reference point for pricing and economic decisions, allowing us to maintain consistency across different contexts and locations within the campaign.

  • Latinum Units

A breakdown of the different Latinum units and their values, including the block, brick, bar, strip, and slip.

  • Converter

A tool for converting between different Latinum units, as well as between Latinum and other currencies or resources used in the campaign.

Tools

The framework allows a variety of use cases and detail levels, from quick pricing decisions to in-depth economic analysis. The key is to maintain consistency and use the canon references and wealth classes as sanity checks for your pricing decisions.

Framework

The pricing framework provides a structured approach to making consistent and logical pricing decisions within the campaign. It includes guidelines for categorizing items and services, applying modifiers based on situational factors, and validating prices against canon references and economic logic.

  • Guidelines

Step-by-step process for making pricing decisions, from identifying category and tier to applying modifiers and sanity checks.

  • Validation Tests

A set of tests to ensure consistency and economic logic in our pricing decisions, including affordability checks and tier progression tests.

Context

Understanding the economic context of our campaign is crucial for making informed pricing decisions. This includes being familiar with canonical references for Latinum values, as well as understanding the relative wealth and economic classes within the campaign setting.

  • Canon References

A compilation of canonical references for Latinum values, providing real-world anchors for our pricing decisions.

  • Relative Wealth

A table that contextualizes different amounts of Latinum in terms of economic classes, helping to ensure that prices are appropriate for the intended audience and narrative context.
